This week we revealed the Dezeen Awards 2022 longlists

This week on Dezeen, we revealed the longlists in all categories of the Dezeen Awards 2022, showcasing the world’s best studios and projects.

This week saw the architecture longlist revealed on Monday, followed by the interiors longlist on Tuesday. The projects competing for the design award were unveiled on Wednesday and the longlisted sustainability projects and media projects on Thursday.

Yesterday we published the final longlist of the studios competing to be named the world’s best.

The architecture longlist for the Dezeen Awards 2022 was revealed on Monday

All of the projects and studios longlisted for this year’s Dezeen Awards were chosen from over 5,400 entries from 90 countries.

The Dezeen Awards judges will now determine the projects that will feature on the shortlists, which will be announced in September before the overall winners are revealed in November.

Neom’s executive director for urban planning Tarek Qaddumi spoke to Dezeen this week about the plan for mirrored megacity The Line, which will be 170 kilometres long and built in the Saudi Arabian desert.

“It will end up demonstrating that the world has the human capacity, the technology and the commitment to revolutionise our current way of life,” he told Dezeen.

The fashion world lost a giant with the death of Japanese designer Issey Miyake, who died in Tokyo aged 84 after a battle with liver cancer. We celebrated his legacy with a look at seven of Miyake’s key projects.

We also marked the passing of British illustrator Raymond Briggs, who created The Snowman picture book, and Belgian architect Lucien Kroll, who was known for his participatory architecture.

In design news, we rounded up eight retro electric cars that were informed by motoring heritage.

Among the designs is a modernised, all-electric concept version of Hyundai’s 1980s saloon car as well as an electrified update of Volkswagen’s T1 Transporter van, which became known for its association with the hippie movement.
