Overcoming Barriers: Social Justice in Latin American Architecture

February 20th marks a new edition of the World Day of Social Justice. The theme, “Overcoming barriers and unlocking opportunities”, is a perfect occasion to reflect on the importance of equity in all areas of society – and especially from architecture and urbanism. And yes: they both have a fundamental role in building accessible cities and are important tools for addressing the challenges of economic inequality and social exclusion.

Francisco Cadau: “The Construction Itself Creates Ideas”

Francisco Cadau received the highest award at the recent Buenos Aires 2022 International Architecture Biennial. A recognition of his genuine trajectory that, from technique and materiality, consistently manages to position his favorite location on the map: The city of Campana on the edge of the Parana River in Argentina. His works in this place, such as House of Sieves or Damero Building, are references when it comes to thinking about project models where “construction and technology constitute the ideas themselves”.

On February 15, 2023, the Living Places / Simon Architecture Prize 2023 award ceremony was held in Barcelona. An initiative by Simon, with the support of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, the prize seeks to recognize excellence in architecture from the perspective of the inhabitant. In fact, “it distinguishes those works which strengthen the ability of adaptability of spaces to reach comfort and well-being to its residents”.

These Are the Winning Projects of the Pan American Biennial of Architecture of Quito 2022 (BAQ2022)

The Pan American Biennial of Architecture of Quito (BAQ2022) ended on November 18th. Organized by the Pichincha Provincial College of Architects of Ecuador (CAE-P), it has been held since 1978 with the aim of promoting dialogue, exchange, and reflection on architecture and the contemporary city. During this edition, the intention was to address the theme “Inflections: Seeing again”, with the aim of providing a space for discussion and debate on architecture around the moments of inflection in history.
