Hende Scheme Kuramae Office / DDAA

April 13, 2022 Hana Abdel 0

This project is to renovate an entire concrete building near Kuramae Station into a showroom and office for IaicoS, which operates Hender Scheme and Polyploid. There are a few simple, specific rules for this space. The first is to use raw-edged materials as they are without significant edge treatment except for deburring. The second is to use the colors of materials as they are as much as possible without color matching. The third is to treat opposites, such as craft/industrial, front/back, artificial/natural, and cheap/luxurious as equally as possible.

Sculptform Design Studio / Woods Bagot

March 29, 2022 Bianca Valentina Roșescu 0

Blurring the line between retail space and installation, Sculptform’s is a brilliant ‘working showroom’ case study for just how impactful design can be when local manufacturing and quality craftsmanship come together. Sculptform is a bespoke feature wall and ceiling manufacturer whose factory is in Bendigo (two hours from Melbourne). It makes sense to establish a statement showroom in central Melbourne to be physically closer to industry groups, other manufacturers and architectural collaborators. When Woods Bagot was invited to a design competition for the new showroom, the team threw caution to the wind and really got creative in their design response. They determined the space would be a testament to Sculptform’s expertise, design passion and craftsmanship philosophy.

The Market Building Showroom / Holloway Li

February 7, 2022 Andreas Luco 0

Holloway Li unveils an experience-led showroom and co-working space in Clerkenwell inspired by the lost forms of the Industrial Revolution for bathroom brand Coalbrook. Coalbrook takes its name from the town of Coalbrookdale in the Midlands, the site of the world’s first iron bridge and cradle of the Industrial Revolution. Holloway Li’s design evokes industrial forms and materiality: the chimneys which towered over the skylines of cities, the searing heat of the furnaces and engine rooms, and roughly chiselled quarries.
