Batel Store / Estúdio 41

August 21, 2023 Andreas Luco 0

A commercial space in the Batel neighborhood, in Curitiba-PR. Result of a retrofit in which the original structures of the building were maintained, the project was premised on active facades, thus creating a transparency between interior and exterior on the ground floor, in order to allow multiple possible accesses. The site has a peculiar situation on an urban scale. The lot’s morphology is similar to an acute triangle and, when considering the requirements of the legislation, such as the setbacks of the building alignment, there was not enough usable area left for the implantation of the building, or for the construction of a good area in the basement of garages, for example. As a result, in the first conversations with the clients, the hypothesis arose to renovate the existing building on the lot, carried out in the 90s. A fundamental aspect of the context is the presence of the small square next to the corner. It suggests visual integration and pedestrian flows, directly connected with the interior of the store.

Inspired by the brand’s identity, NBDC sought to create a space where continuous variations of a contemporary and a classic may occur.

White Trio House Office and Store / White on White Studio

August 15, 2023 Andreas Luco 0

White Trio is a small-scale project in one of the main streets of the city of Kashan that was the short-term residence of Sohrab Sepehri (a famous poet in Iran). But this building not only did not have poetic elements but also, over time, has been added to with three different uses only for profitability without considering the project area limitation. So, the project objectives are not only to create a distinct architecture but also to attain a solution for the independence of uses, especially in access to the building. Another limitation was to maintain the western side Within the current situation with the minimum of change. Because demolition of that side could trigger the building setback according to the street widening ordinance.

From the street, a monolith of dark metal appears mysteriously between two columns of the building where the store is located. Familiar and foreign at the same time, it is an element that gives continuity to its surroundings but also defines a unique moment in the ensemble, an entrance.

Loja Cutter Jeans / Estúdio Almar

July 25, 2023 Andreas Luco 0

The initial request was for a concept store, different, that would stand out under the existing coverage of the exhibition area of Haras Raphaela, one of the main spaces in the country for equestrian events. Building the store above the exhibition space level was the first step to guarantee prominence and visibility on event days when the large roof receives several temporary stands. The pedestrian viewing angle was prioritized to ensure the store was seen even at the busiest events. Elevated, the store stands out in space, seeming to float. The concept also was to bring lightness to the form itself, a single free roof supported by the side walls, working as a frame for the view at the back of the store.

From Old Chapel to Thrift Shop and Social Housing / Tectône

July 23, 2023 Andreas Luco 0

The chapel of the ≪Avenue de la Liberte≫ in Charenton is the living and working space of one of the first ≪Emmaus≫ communities in France since the 70s. Emmaus is a solidarity movement founded in Paris in 1949 by Abbe Pierre to combat poverty and homelessness. Emmaus is a secular organization, but communities around the world have kept the biblical name because of its symbolism. The charity provides formerly homeless people with a home and work, usually collecting, sorting, and reselling donated furniture and household goods in thrift shops. People welcomed by Emmaus are called ≪companions≫ In 2018, Emmaus Liberte appointed tectōne for a full renovation and refurbishment of their historical site. Our mission was to provide a clean, clear, and adapted to our contemporary world place of work and life for the community.

July 21, 2023 Hana Abdel 0

TODAY’S SPECIAL is a simple, not-too-fancy store evoking a sense of everyday life but offering the excitement of a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. It gives one a sense of anticipation before even going to the store,  like, “Maybe they have what I have been looking for if I go there.” And when one goes there, it makes them feel, “Maybe this is what I really wanted.”
