Extending, between the village and the field. Zhonghua Village, located in the southwest corner of the thriving metropolis of Shanghai, is undergoing subtle transformations. This village is anticipated to be infused with rows upon rows of newly constructed, high-quality community service buildings and public spaces. The Villager’s Cultural Activity Center, newly constructed on the former site of a rural primary school, is a significant driving force behind this revitalization program. Our design aims to reconnect the village, the fields, the villagers, and the legacy of this land, making the center key to revitalizing the village.

The intention of this project is deeply rooted in the understanding of the site as an opportunity to create a sense of place. The house is not perceived as an imposed object but as a tool to uncover the natural events and manifestations specific to the context. The placement of the modules sets a high priority on the disposition of outdoor areas, establishing pathways through them and creating zones of contemplation. This design defines the boundaries that separate the open and the enclosed, enhancing the overall sitewide experience.

In addition to the organic connection of the interior with the exterior, the horizontal form, and the subtlety in the terrain, the materials chosen are an interesting feature of the family house called “Zasadený” (Slovak for “embedded”). It is built on the authenticity of natural materials, their serene coloration, durability, and graceful aging. The green roof of the building seamlessly merges with the surrounding terrain.

Papillon House / Yi Arquitetos

Located in Jardim Botânico, 20 minutes from Brasília, Casa Papillon is a house built in 2019 that has as its protagonist the large four-water roof that guides the entire project. The concept came from the clients’ desire: to refer to traditional houses with colonial roofs, but without losing contemporaneity. Using coatings such as brick and wooden boards on the ceiling also materialized this desire. On the other hand, the metallic structure and glass closures bring contemporaneity to the project.
