Feni College Boddhobhumi Sritisthombho Complex / Vector Plinth

The project site, located in Feni, was one of the most crucial war zones in 1971. Even after 52 years of independence, the people of Feni weep recalling the casualty of the war. Feni Government College students boldly portrayed the war’s terrors in a school play called “Goalpost.” They conveyed a message to the audience about how the Muktibahini (Freedom Fighters) were fatally persecuted on the goalpost of the college field. The project’s architects took inspiration from the horrific history of the “goalpost” and initiated the idea of an abstract monumental goalpost – symbolizing the incident of the suspended martyrs. The notion was to revive the memory of the martyrs so that young students could understand and appreciate the sacrifices made in 1971.

We seek to create a symbiotic system integrated with people, buildings, and cities. The existence of humans and events based on human behaviors will profoundly shape the appearance of buildings and cities. Architecture is not only a container for behaviors but also a stimulus for the occurrence of various behaviors, endowing space with spontaneous vitality and flexibility. ——Dong Danshen.

In order to reveal the qualities of the site, from the early sketches, the main focus has always been on the compactness of the project. The building stands on a basement that acts as a support for the project. The slope makes it possible to insert an additional level, at the garden level, while a forecourt provides the principal access to the building at ground level.

Queen’s Business School / TODD Architects

Queen’s University’s new Business School building sits within its Riddel Hall campus, in south Belfast in front of the Grade II listed Riddel Hall building and enclosed by mature woodland. In 2017, due to its continued growth, the School identified a need to expand its facilities. Its vision was for a state-of-the-art facility that would both respond to the changing educational needs of its rapidly growing post-graduate community and be a transitional link between education and employment. In addition, the School was keen to explore how the “in-between” spaces linking teaching and learning accommodation could be more than just circulation corridors, encouraging thinking on the introduction of informal study and break-out areas.
